Cooper Turner Beck Group Secures DIBt Certification for Large Diameter Fasteners in Record Time

In a notable achievement, Cooper Turner Beck Group (CTB) has successfully obtained DIBt certification for their large diameter direct tension fasteners, ranging from sizes M36 to M72.

CTB completed the complex and rigorous certification process in just 9 months, a process that typically takes around 3 years.

The Significance of DIBt Certification

The Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) is a German institution responsible for ensuring the safety, compliance, and standardisation of construction products and systems.

Established in 1968, it operates under the jurisdiction of the German federal and state governments and is the gold standard for construction product certifications in Germany, recognised across Europe for its stringent testing and regulatory processes.

DIBt certification is highly valued because it ensures that products meet high safety, health, and environmental standards, which are crucial for construction projects in Germany and beyond. It also signals that a product has undergone rigorous testing and complies with both national and European regulations.

Certification from DIBt validates that CTB’s fasteners meet the highest standards of safety, durability, and compliance with both German and EU regulations – and means CTB can supply these large diameter fasteners to all projects in Germany and in German waters.

A Gruelling Process: Condensed into 9 Months

Achieving certification involved a meticulous multi-step process. For CTB, this journey began with the submission of an initial technical specification document—a comprehensive 30-page document outlining every aspect of our product design and manufacturing process.

After this initial submission, DIBt assigned technical experts to audit our facilities, ensuring that the group’s production processes met their rigorous standards. The onsite audits included a thorough examination of the entire manufacturing process, with each stage undergoing scrutiny. From material sourcing to the assembly of the fasteners, nothing was left unchecked.

Throughout this process, the team at CTB meticulously documented their work, producing a final submission of approximately 1,000 pages. This document covered every aspect of the certification requirements, from technical specifications and safety measures to the results of multiple tests on the fasteners’ strength and durability.

CTB condensed a 3-year certification journey into just 9 months. This was only possible due to the technical expertise, efficiency, and the dedication to quality of our engineering team.

Key Functions of DIBt

  • Approval of Construction Products and Systems

DIBt issues general building authority approvals (allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassungen), European Technical Approvals (ETAs), and technical assessments for construction products that are not fully covered by existing technical standards.

  • Harmonisation with European Standards

DIBt works closely with European bodies to align German building standards with EU regulations, particularly through the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

  • Certification of Products

DIBt certifies that products and systems meet safety, health, and environmental standards required by German law. This certification is recognised as a mark of quality and reliability in the construction industry.

What This Means for the Industry

By securing DIBt certification in such a short time, CTB has proven itself to be at the forefront of the industry, setting a new benchmark for efficiency in technical audits and joining other DIBt-certified global construction leaders like BASF and Saint Gobain.

Large diameter fasteners are used in critical infrastructure projects where safety is paramount, and having DIBt-certified fasteners assures customers that they are investing in products that meet the highest international standards.

This achievement also highlights CTB’s commitment to continuous excellence in manufacturing – working to constantly improve the quality of our products, delivering the highest standards for our partners.

Looking Ahead: CTB’s Role in Future Projects

With this certification in hand, CTB is now positioned to take on even more significant roles in global construction projects. Whether it’s supplying fasteners for bridges, wind turbines, or high-rise buildings, CTB’s certified fasteners will contribute to the reliability and safety of critical infrastructure worldwide.

Completing the DIBt certification process in just 9 months is a milestone accomplishment for Cooper Turner Beck Group. The certification represents dedication and expertise as we continue to set the standard for product quality – and teamwork within the group.
